PCCP Poster Prize 2015

16 May 2015

Ibrahim Sadiek
Ibrahim Sadiek returned with a PCCP poster prize from the 114th General Assembly of the German Bunsen Society for Physical Chemistry in Bochum. Congratulations! His poster "Working limits of saturated absorption cavity ringdown spectroscopy (SCAR)“, which has been presented in the session "Experimental Techniques" has been selected from over 300 poster contributions. Using the new high power mid-IR laser source in combination with an optical resonator as the sample cell, Ibrahim aims to further improve the sensitivity of the well-established cavity rindown spectroscopy (CRDS) detection method. The project is funded both by the cluster of excellence "Future Ocean" as well as the HOSST graduate school. Before it (hopefully) will be possible to detect traces gases such halogenated organic compounds at ppq (parts per quadrillion) mixing ratio level, a thorough characterization of the new method and a detailed understanding of the saturation dynamics are necessary. Ibrahim Sadiek will also present his results at the 11th International User Meeting on Cavity Enhanced Spectroscopy taking place in Boulder, Colorado, in June as a selected oral presentation.
